Visit the PACIFICO BUILDING
A building with history
After
the fashion of Paris Bon Marché, towards the end of the1800’s,
Francisco Seeber and Emilio Bunge created the Argentine Bon Marché. In
1908, a part of the building was sold to the Buenos Aires - Pacifico
Railroad. In 1945, the building was refurbished, separating the
shopping from the railroad administrative offices, it included the
murals paintings by Spilimbergo, Urruchúa, Castagnino, Colmeiro, and
Berni, on the 450m2 central dome. Their works comprise diverse themes,
achieving an unmatched cohesion of shapes and colors. The murals were
restored in 1978, under Antonio Berni's direction and in 1991 by an
Argentine-Mexican group. In 1989, the building was declared a National
Historical Monument. Later, it was delivered to Galerias Pacifico S.A.
and on May 18,1992 the Shopping and Cultural Center was opened,
starting the most flourishing stage of the once secular and dreamy
Argentine Bon Marché.
